Cloudflare opens its Developer Week by moving D1 (SQL database), Hyperdrive (acceleration of existing databases) and Workers Analytics Engine to general availability, for full-stack apps on Workers.

What changes

  • D1 reaches general availability: databases up to 10 GB, up to 50,000 databases per account.
  • Hyperdrive, free with the Workers Paid plan, speeds up existing PostgreSQL databases.
  • Workers Analytics Engine also reaches general availability.
  • Cloudflare reports more than two million developers on its platform.

### What changes On 1 April 2024, to open its Developer Week, Cloudflare announced the general availability of **D1**, its SQL database for Workers, of **Hyperdrive**, which makes existing databases faster and more "distributed", and of **Workers Analytics Engine**. Cloudflare then reported more than two million developers on its platform. ### Key facts - D1: databases up to 10 GB, up to 50,000 databases per account, a query analysis tool (D1 Insights) and data export. - D1 pricing: the Workers Paid plan includes 25 billion row reads per month, with overage charges beyond. - Hyperdrive: compatible with PostgreSQL drivers and ORMs (Drizzle, for example), free with the Workers Paid plan; MySQL announced as coming. - Queues: pull-based consumers over HTTP and delayed messages. - Workers Analytics Engine: 10 million data points and 1 million queries per month included in the paid plan. ### Why it matters Serverless functions at the edge used to stumble on data: without a database close to the code, the latency gain vanished. With D1 and Hyperdrive, Cloudflare offers a complete stack (compute, SQL, message queue, analytics) from a single vendor. For a services firm, the argument is operational simplicity, to be weighed against dependence on a proprietary platform. ### Takeaway Cloudflare adds a data layer to Workers and aims at full applications rather than simple functions.
