### Background On May 6, 2024, FANUC launched the CRX-10iA/L Paint, an explosion-proof version of its CRX cobot designed for paint booths. Until then, automated painting relied on conventional industrial robots isolated behind guarding. This model brings cobot-style ease of programming to environments with explosion risk. ### Specifications - 10 kg payload; 1,418 mm reach; weighs 45 kg. - Complies with explosion-proof standards in many regions: IECEx, ATEX, Canada, Japan, Korea, China, Taiwan and Brazil. - Maintenance-free for 8 years according to FANUC; compact R-30iB Mini Plus controller. - Drag-and-drop programming on a tablet, with coating-specific command icons. - Supports liquid coating, powder coating and fiberglass-reinforced plastic. ### Why it matters According to FANUC America, it is "the first collaborative paint robot available for sale and use in North and South America". It opens robotic painting to high-mix shops that could not afford to program industrial robots. ### Key takeaways The cobot enters paint booths, one of the last areas reserved for certified industrial robots.
