1X unveils NEO Beta, its first humanoid designed for the home, with safety as the priority and a few units placed in selected homes in 2024 for research.

What changes

  • 1X's first humanoid explicitly aimed at the home, after the wheeled EVE robot.
  • Bio-inspired design built to work safely around people.
  • A few units deployed in selected homes in 2024 to gather feedback.
  • Built at 1X's facility in Moss, Norway.

### What changes On 30 August 2024, 1X, a company based between the San Francisco Bay Area and Moss (Norway), unveiled NEO Beta, a bipedal humanoid designed for the home. Until then known for EVE, a wheeled robot for industrial and institutional sites, the company signalled its turn towards consumers. 1X highlights bio-inspired engineering designed so the robot can move safely around people. CEO Bernt Børnich put it this way: "Safety is the cornerstone that allows us to confidently introduce NEO Beta into homes." ### Specifications | Item | Detail | |---|---| | Use | Home assistant (beta) | | Manufacturing | 1X facility in Moss, Norway | | Deployment | A few units in selected homes in 2024, for R&D | 1X did not publish a detailed spec sheet (height, weight, runtime) for this beta version. ### Why it matters NEO Beta is the first step of a strategy that led to consumer pre-orders for NEO in October 2025. Placing robots in real homes is meant to supply real-world data for training models. ### Key takeaway This is a research version, not a commercial product.
