Fourier unveils the GR-2, second generation of its GRx series: 1.75 m, 63 kg, 53 degrees of freedom and 12-DOF hands with tactile sensors, plus a detachable battery with doubled capacity.

What changes

  • 53 degrees of freedom in total, including 12 per hand.
  • Six array-type tactile sensors per hand to adjust grip.
  • Detachable battery with doubled capacity, one extra hour of runtime.
  • ROS, NVIDIA Isaac Lab and MuJoCo compatibility for developers.

### Background On September 30, 2024, in Shanghai, Fourier announced the GR-2, successor to the GR-1 unveiled in 2023. The company, which comes from rehabilitation robotics, reworked the hardware, design and software stack of its humanoid. ### Specifications | Item | Value | |---|---| | Height | 175 cm | | Weight | 63 kg | | Degrees of freedom | 53 | | Dexterous hand | 12 DOF, 6 array-type tactile sensors | | Payload per arm | 3 kg | | FSA 2.0 actuators | peak torque above 380 N·m | | Battery | detachable, doubled capacity (+1 h) | On the software side, the GR-2 supports mainstream languages and ROS, with ready-made modules for vision, path planning and force feedback. It is compatible with NVIDIA Isaac Lab and MuJoCo. ### Why it matters The tactile hands double dexterity compared with the previous model: the robot can adjust its grip in real time and identify an object's shape or material. CEO Alex Gu called the GR-2 "a big step into the future of humanoid robotics". ### Key takeaways The GR-2 placed Fourier among suppliers of full-size research platforms, before its turn toward care robots with the GR-3 in 2025.
