At its AI Day, carmaker Xpeng unveils IRON, a 1.78 m, 70 kg humanoid with more than 60 joints, powered by its Turing chip. It already works in the group's factories and stores.
What changes
- A carmaker enters the humanoid race.
- IRON is 1.78 m tall, weighs 70 kg and has more than 60 joints.
- The robot shares the Turing chip and AI of Xpeng's cars.
- It is first deployed internally, in factories and stores.
### What changes On November 6, 2024, at its AI Day in Guangzhou, Xpeng unveiled IRON, its first humanoid, the result of five years of development. The robot reuses the technology building blocks of the group's cars: Turing chip, perception and AI models. ### Specifications | Item | Value | |---|---| | Height | 178 cm | | Weight | 70 kg | | Joints | more than 60 | | Degrees of freedom (per Xpeng) | 200 in total | | Compute | Xpeng's in-house Turing chip | Sources differ on the degrees of freedom: Xpeng claims 200 in total, while other analyses count 60, including 15 per hand. ### Why it matters IRON is first intended for internal use: it works in Xpeng's factories and stores before being considered for offices and homes. The carmaker applies automotive logic to the robot: same chip, same models, same industrialization chain. CEO He Xiaopeng sees Xpeng's systematized AI capabilities as its main advantage. ### Key takeaways This first generation opens a program Xpeng would accelerate: a new generation in November 2025, then a dedicated production line in September 2026.
