France's Pollen Robotics shows Reachy 2 at CES 2025, an open-source research humanoid that can be teleoperated or programmed in Python, already deployed in more than 100 units.
What changes
- Fully open-source humanoid on ROS 2, controllable in Python or by teleoperation.
- Four configurations: one or two arms, on an autonomous mobile base or a fixed base.
- More than 100 Pollen robots deployed in 20 countries (Cornell, Carnegie Mellon, CNRS, CEA…).
- Targets: research centres, healthcare and retail.
### Background Pollen Robotics, a French company founded in 2016, showed Reachy 2 at CES 2025. The date used here (8 January 2025) is that of The Robot Report's show coverage. The robot was already being shown in autumn 2024: the **first availability date remains approximate**. Reachy 2 is a fully open-source robot with a humanoid torso. It can be teleoperated or programmed in Python and runs on ROS 2. ### Specifications | Item | Detail | |---|---| | Configurations | 1 or 2 arms, autonomous mobile base or fixed base | | Software | Open source, ROS 2, Python control | | Control | Autonomous or teleoperated | | Installed base | More than 100 robots in 20 countries | ### Why it matters Reachy 2 is one of the few open European humanoid platforms, used by labs such as Cornell, Carnegie Mellon, CNRS, CEA and École polytechnique. This installed base weighed in Hugging Face's acquisition of Pollen in April 2025. ### Key takeaway Its mobile-base version makes Reachy 2 a wheeled semi-humanoid, designed for embodied AI research rather than industry.
