At SIGGRAPH 2025, NVIDIA makes Isaac Sim 5.0 and Isaac Lab 2.2, its open-source robot simulation and learning frameworks, available on GitHub, alongside NuRec neural rendering and the 7B Cosmos Reason model.

What changes

  • Isaac Sim 5.0 and Isaac Lab 2.2 released open source on GitHub.
  • NuRec neural rendering with 3D Gaussian splatting to rebuild real scenes.
  • MuJoCo (MJCF) and OpenUSD interoperability.
  • Cosmos Reason: an open 7-billion-parameter physical reasoning model.

### What changes On August 11, 2025, at SIGGRAPH, NVIDIA announced that its robot simulation and learning frameworks Isaac Sim 5.0 and Isaac Lab 2.2 were available open source on GitHub. The announcement came with new Omniverse libraries and new Cosmos models. ### Specifications - **Isaac Sim 5.0**: includes NuRec neural rendering and new OpenUSD-based robot and sensor schemas to narrow the sim-to-real gap. - **NuRec**: ray-traced 3D Gaussian splatting libraries to capture, reconstruct and simulate the real world from sensor data. - **Interoperability**: a bridge between MuJoCo (MJCF) and OpenUSD, aimed at the 250,000+ MJCF developers NVIDIA cites. - **Cosmos Reason**: an open 7-billion-parameter physical reasoning vision-language model; Cosmos Transfer-2 announced as coming soon. - **Cited adopters**: Boston Dynamics, Figure AI, Hexagon, RAI Institute, Lightwheel and Skild AI. ### Why it matters By opening its simulation tools, NVIDIA aims to become the de facto standard for robot training, against MuJoCo and Genesis. Openness also eases external contributions and research adoption. ### Key takeaway Robot simulation is becoming open-source ground where NVIDIA, Google DeepMind and universities converge; Newton followed in September 2025.
